Built like an F1 car: the thinking behind the F1 Optical Capsule

An F1 car isn't designed to look good — it's designed to perform. That was the brief we gave ourselves for the F1 Optical Capsule. Thirteen frames. We chose five.

An F1 car isn't designed to look good. It's designed to perform — and it happens to look extraordinary because every part has a reason to be there. Nothing is decoration. Everything is engineering.

That was the brief we gave ourselves for the F1 Eyewear Optical Capsule. Not "make F1-branded glasses." Make eyewear the way you'd build a race car — choosing every material for what it does, then letting the look follow from the function.

Thirteen frames. We chose five.

The F1 Eyewear Optical Collection runs to thirteen models. We wore them, argued about them, and narrowed it to five — the ones that earned their place. Each is named for a moment in the race weekend, because those names aren't marketing. They're the philosophy: the quiet, decisive moments where races are actually won.

The materials are the story

Three of the five frames are built in recycled carbon fibre reclaimed from Italy's Motor Valley — the stretch of Emilia-Romagna where Ferrari, Lamborghini, Ducati and Dallara build their cars. It's the home of motorsport engineering, and the same composite that goes into race machinery goes into the F1 Pole Position, the F1 Paddock and the F1 Aero.

The F1 Aero takes it furthest. A rimless build in titanium, down to titanium nose pads and F1 technical trims and screws on every contact point. It's the lightest frame in the capsule — engineering you feel rather than notice, the way aerodynamics work in a wind tunnel.

The two acetate frames — the F1 Briefing and the F1 Apex — tell the other half of the story. They're made from plant-based Italian cotton-fibre acetate with a near-zero carbon footprint, built in the spirit of Formula 1's own commitment to be Net Zero by 2030. Performance thinking applied to sustainability, not just speed.

Designed and handmade in England

Every frame in the capsule is designed and handmade in England — the home of Formula 1, where the sport was born and where most of the grid is still engineered today. It carries the official F1® licence, and it carries the craft to match.
